Andy Grammer makes girl's prom dream come true

METHUEN, Mass. (WHDH) -- A pop star made a girl's prom dream come true. He not only showed up to perform, he spent the night as her dashing date.

His name is Andy Grammer and he's one of the hottest voices on the radio.

One of his biggest fans thought she would take a chance and ask him to prom through YouTube. He ended up saying yes, and then some. It wasn’t a bad deal for a girl who says she couldn't even find a date.

“I’m still in shock, it still hasn't registered,” said Alyssa Kelley.

Grammer showed up unannounced at the Presentation of Mary Academy's prom in Methuen last week all because of senior Alyssa Kelley.

“I was joking around with my friends and said, ‘Oh I should do something like that, and ask Andy to prom.’ And they said, ‘Oh my gosh, that would be so funny,’” Kelley said.

Kelley took Grammer's song, "Fine By Me," and spinned her own lyrics into an invite to her prom, and posted it on YouTube.

Grammer was tipped off to Kelley’s video by a Los Angeles radio station.

“That was the first surprise, I wasn't even sure if he was going to see it,” Kelley said.

Then secretly with the help of school staff, Grammer planned a special performance for the Methuen school. That night Kelley’s name was announced that there was a special surprise for her.

“The first thing that popped into my mind, like maybe he's here, because I knew he was in Boston. So maybe from some miracle he found out where my school was, and he was going to show up and surprise me, and that's exactly what happened. It was literally all that I could have dreamed,” Kelley said.

Grammer played two songs and even slow danced with Kelley.

“This is the best way senior year could have ended, like I couldn't have imagined it any more perfect,” said Kelley.

Kelley is graduating from the Presentation of Mary Academy this week as valedictorian.
