Girl sells lemonade to raise money for Gloucester family

GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Gloucester girl is selling lemonade to raise money for a family that lost their home after a fire.

Six-year-old Bailee sells the lemonade outside her home. And, Thursday she talked about what she plans to do with the cash.

She’s trying to make a difference the only way she knows how -- and she’s doing just that.

The Cardone family of Gloucester picked through the rubble of their home after a devastating fire Monday. They lost one of their dogs, but they survived, and are still stunned.

“It's overwhelming. It’s been wonderful. And that little girl’s amazing at such a young age. Monday we had the clothes on our back, and people have donated stuff, and that little girl's amazing. At such a young age,” said Marianne Cardone.

That little girl is 6-year-old Bailee Militello who lives across town. She and her mom saw the aftermath of the fire. And this is how she felt:

“Bailee was really touched by it, I brought her to the house and she was really shocked and she wanted to help,” said Brieana Militello, Bailee’s mother said.

Bailee's had experience selling lemonade, so for the past two days, she, along with her little brother Jimmy and the whole family have been selling lemonade in order to, “help the people,” Bailee said.

“It's amazing to us that this little girl heard about us and she's six years old, and she’s willing to help us. We just find it truly amazing,” said Laura Cardone.

All afternoon, people pulled up and got cold drink of lemonade -- just a dollar a cup.

“And after they get the lemonade they say, ‘thank you,’” said Bailee.

“I think this is great. It's great seeing the kids have an opportunity to give back to people in their community,” said a lemonade customer.

Some gave more -- a lot more. And some gave, but took a pass on the sweet drink.

“It's for a good cause, no lemonade for me today,” said one man who donated.

Bailee is little girl who turned something sour into something sweet.

“I just want to thank her, and everybody else. We really want to give our heart to them. Thank you very much,” Marianne Cardone said.

After two days, Bailee's lemonade stand raised $650. And she'll be out there again Friday.
