UNDATED (WHDH) -- The following is a release from the Massachusetts State Police.

State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Peabody

Today, at 7:42 p.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Danvers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 95 northbound at the Route 128 northbound exit ramp in Peabody. The crash resulted in one fatality.

An adult man, who was the only occupant, was driving on Route 95 northbound at the Route 128 northbound exit ramp in Peabody. The vehicle came to a final rest off the shoulder of the roadway. Troopers on scene observed very little damage to the vehicle. The operator was transported by Peabody EMS to Leahy North Hospital in Peabody.

Preliminary investigation by investigating troopers indicates that the operator suffered a medical emergency prior to going off the road. His name, age, hometown, and type of vehicle will not be released at this time; State Police are in the process of making family notifications.

At the time of the investigation, State Police closed the exit ramp which leads to Route 128 northbound. All other traffic was flowing freely.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Peabody Fire Department and EMS.
