Everett man accused of beating MBTA bus driver

LYNN, Mass. (WHDH) -- An Everett man appeared in court Friday, charged with assault and battery of an MBTA bus driver.

The bizarre string of events began Thursday night when suspect, 33-year-old Paul Kouroyen chased the bus as the driver pulled away from Revere ‘T’ Station. Police say that Kouroyen banged on the door telling the driver, 50-year-old Paulo Rodrigues, to stop, but he continued driving.

Police say the suspect jumped on another bus and got off at the Central Square stop in Lynn where he confronted Rodriguez. Police say the suspect then attacked Rodrigues.

“A violent physical altercation ensued where operator Rodriguez was punched in the face multiple times, kicked in the stomach and in speaking to Mr. Rodriguez today, he was transported to the union hospital after the incident where he was x-rayed. His mouth and nose were bruised and he sustained an open wound on his leg,” said prosecutor, Susan Dolhun, in court today.

Kouroyen is being held on $1,000 cash bail he was ordered to stay away from the victim and witnesses and to steer clear of this particular bus route.

Rodrigues is recuperating at home and is expected to be out of work for some time.
