CHELSEA, Mass. (WHDH) -- Sewers swelled and spilled out on roadways after steady rain drenched the Bay State Tuesday evening into Wednesday.

Heavy rains turned an Everett street into a temporary lake. One woman said she had no choice but to wade through the flash flood to fix her flat tire.

In Chelsea, one car had to be towed after getting stuck in water. A tractor-trailer couldn’t start back up after the driver said water and mud went up to his knees. Police had to temporarily close down Vale Street.

Business at a car wash was scarce, but the flooding is a familiar site, according to one employee.

“You get used to it after awhile. I’ve been working here six years, so you’re used to it. You just pick up the trash and scoop all the water back into the street,” said Nick Rekas, a car wash employee.

Commuters dealt with a wet mess on the Tobin Bridge Wednesday morning. A lane was closed and drivers were stuck in the rain.
