SALEM, N.H. (WHDH) -- Police said two men walked into a convenience store Friday night and one of them walked behind the counter, trying to get his hands on whatever he could.
Surveillance video shows a skirmish. Then the alert clerk chased away the suspects.
The clerk grabbed a stick to scare the pair off. They bolted, but not before one of them allegedly assaulted the store worker.
“He hit me, one punch only,” said the convenience store employee.
A witness watched as the two drove away and copied down the license plate. Police quickly tracked down where they were and it didn't take long to make an arrest.
Taken into custody Saturday morning, 19-year-old Zachary Pintal was charged for robbery and assault and 20-year-old Brett Kearley is accused of being an accomplice to robbery.
The two are behind bars, facing a pile of legal troubles and police said it was all for a few packs of cigarettes.
“I don’t believe they even got any cash,” said an official.
The suspects will appear before a judge on Monday.
