Friend: Marshfield teen's threatening tweets were jokes

MARSHFIELD, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Marshfield teen who was the target of a troubling tweet says it was a joke and that her friend shouldn't be facing criminal charges.

“It was blown out of proportion, it was a joke we all know him. We know he wouldn't hurt anyone,” alleged victim Brianna Young said.

Brianna Young, 15, stuck up for her friend Kyle Stockford -- who's charged with threatening to kill her and another classmate.

Prosecutors say on the same day he told a 14-year-old girl at Marshfield High he was going to shoot her, he tweeted, “I’ll kill you,” to Brianna Young.

“We were talking when he tweeted it. He just -- he wouldn't hurt anyone,” said Brianna Young.

But when investigators went onto Stockford's public Twitter page, they say they found a string of disturbing posts from earlier in the week.

Stockford tweeted, "I needa kill someone this sucks I hate school," followed by, "Plotting somthing."

Brianna Young says these posts mean nothing to those who know her 17-year-old friend.

“No one thought anything of it. They thought, it's Kyle he's just being random,” Brianna Young said.

Brianna Young's's mother Sandi doesn't believe her daughter is in danger, but wonders why officials never contacted her.

“I immediately called the police station asked if this had anything to do with my daughter Brianna Young getting tweet saying, ‘I'm going to kill you,’ and they said no,” said Sandi Young.

She hopes it does all turns out to be just a prank -- and more importantly, a life lesson for the kids.

“You have to learn this day age you can't be saying things like that,” Sandi Young said.

Stockford has been released on $1,000 bail and has been ordered to stay away from the high school as well as the two alleged victims.
