STONEHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- Nearly one month after Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast, people in the Bay State continued to lend a helping hand.

Volunteers in Stoneham spent their Sunday gathering and packing up items to send to storm victims in New York.

Donations ranged from cleaning supplies and food to clothing. Members of the Saint Monica Parish in Methuen are working to make sure children affected by sandy have a happy holiday.

They are collecting new toys, books, and blankets that will be driven to Breezy Point, New York in time for Christmas.

Breezy Point was the scene of a devastating fire during Hurricane Sandy.
