Manager confirms Burbine worked at Reading store

READING, Mass. (WHDH) -- The 49-year-old convicted sex offender who has been indicted on charges that he sexually abused young children was arrested at a camping store in Reading where he was employed.

The manager of the store confirmed to 7News John Burbine was employed at the REI recreational equipment store.

According to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, Burbine was arrested on Sept. 28. on one count of sexual assault on a child.

The manager would not disclose how long Burbine was employed at the store. The manager would not comment on the sexual abuse case.

Nearby businesses told 7News police were present in the shopping center earlier on Thursday asking employees if they knew Burbine -- they did not.
