Fight erupts over parking spot at NH mall

SALEM, N.H. (WHDH) -- Six people were arrested after a fight erupted over a parking spot at a New Hampshire mall.

The mall at Rockingham Park in Salem, New Hampshire was packed Sunday afternoon; a big shopping day a little more than a week before Christmas.

A good parking spot opened up; a lucrative find in the huge lot -- especially on a snowy, cold afternoon.

Police say two cars arrived at the same time -- two men in a car, got the spot, and then started walking toward the mall entrance.

Salem police say the four people in the other car followed them in the parking lot. They exchanged words and that's when two people got out of that car, and the fight got physical.

“I was shocked, with the holiday you wouldn't think people would be that nasty,” one woman said.

Mall security called Salem police and they arrested everyone involved in the altercation, including a father and son.

People shopping at the mall Monday couldn’t believe people would throw punches over a prime parking spot.

“People need to have the spirit, why are you gonna argue, what’s wrong with walking a few feet? It’s not going to hurt you,” one man said.

All six people have been charged with disorderly conduct.
