EVERETT, Mass. (WHDH) -- Cameras captured a robber diving over the counter to grab money out of a register at a Dunkin Donuts in Everett Wednesday.
The clerk who was behind the counter spoke out Thursday.
“He just looked normal, that’s why I didn’t expect him to do something like that,” said Soumiya Kaitiah, clerk.
Soumiya Kaitiah came face-to-face with the unmasked and unarmed crook who cleared out the register at the new Dunkin Donuts on Main Street in Everett.
In her two months working there, Kaitiah said she’s never seen the man until Wednesday night when he grabbed a fistful of cash and made a break for it.
“He handed me a dollar and said, ‘Can I have a donut,’ and I said, ‘Yeah,’ and when I opened the drawer he jumped over. He just grabbed all the money and was like in the drawer. And he ran away,” said Kaitiah.
Kaitiah backed away as the robber swiped the cash. The drawer fell to the ground before police say he took off from the donut shop on a mountain bike.
“I was just shocked. I just stood back, I couldn’t do anything,” said Kaitiah.
Police say it’s an unusual target for a robber, and one that made the high school senior frightened.
“Working by myself in this area, it’s very dangerous,” said Kaitiah.
The clerk said the shop was empty except for one customer who was talking on her cell phone during the entire robbery.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
