WILMINGTON, Mass. -- One local family has found a creative way to get around during the recent rainstorm.

As the waters continue to rise in Wilmington, the Sugrue family is using a boat to get where they need to go.

“We’ve had it before, but this is... the worst I’ve seen it in a long time. We can’t get out otherwise. Our vehicles are parked over there, and we use the boat to get to work and school,” said Cori Sugrue.

David Sugrue picked up his sister with the boat. However, the boat wasn’t ready for David on Monday morning to go to class, so he tried another way.

“It’s a lot of water, so I just put on sandals and shorts and just went through. Feet were cold,” he said.

Just a street over, John Rundlett’s home was also being invaded by rising flood waters.

“Pouring into the basement, which is actually finished and unfinished,” he said.

Streets throughout Wilmington flooded.

By around 8 p.m. on Monday, the Shawsheen River is expected to reach a record-breaking 3.5 feet above flood stage.
