RI Naval Station's status normal after DC shooting
NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) -- No problems are being reported at Naval Station Newport following a deadly shooting at the U.S. Navy Yard in Washington D.C.
Spokespeople at the Naval Station and the Naval War College say the facilities have not been put on alert following Monday morning's incident in Washington. Several people were reported killed and others wounded after a gunman opened fire inside the building at the Navy Yard.
The Newport Naval Station is home to the Naval War College, the Naval Undersea Warfare Center and several other military installations that employ thousands of military and civilian workers.
