BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A tractor trailer struck a bus near the intersection of Quincy Street and Court Street in Brockton Tuesday.

“He hit the back of the bus and then I realized that he had hit me and everything, and all I wanted to do was stop the thing. And in the mere seconds, that’s how far I traveled,” said William Mazur, bus driver. “I think I was in shock. So shaken up.”

The Brockton area transit bus careened onto a woman’s lawn after the tractor trailer hit it from behind.

“It’s unbelievable. At least the house is okay. It’s structurally fine,” said Sheila Carol, homeowner.

Three passengers on board the bus were taken to a hospital to be checked out. Police say the driver of the tractor trailer wasn’t familiar with the area and that when he looked down for a moment, he missed a red light.

“It’s a mere matter of seconds how far you can travel. So then I got my foot on the brake and stopped it and everything and that’s where I wound up,” Mazur said.

A traffic light that was knocked down in the accident will need to be replaced.

The driver of the tractor trailer has been cited.
