Taunton students investigated for photos on website
TAUNTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- Taunton school officials confirmed Wednesday police told them within the last week of an investigation into the actions of Taunton High School students.
Police told 7News the investigation involves students allegedly setting up a website with private pictures of classmates.
The students allegedly then sold access to the site to other students.
"We take anything like that seriously and if we were further into an investigation we may be able to comment, but when the police are handling the investigation, the schools are not at liberty to share information," said Julie Haskell, Taunton Public Schools superintendent.
The superintendent says only high school students are involved as far as she knows, but police say there are pictures of students from other schools as well.
Police told 7News they have seen other cases like this in the past, but this one is on a much larger scale.
"It's being investigated by the police department. It’s an ongoing investigation, and that’s about all I can let you know,” said Haskell.
The superintendent told 7News any disciplinary action will only come once police finish their investigation.
