Police investigate website featuring local teens
TAUNTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- In between the usual business at Taunton High School questions continue to swirl over a police investigation currently underway.
Police are investigating a website filled with compromising pictures of high school students. The photos are available to other students willing to pay the price.
Taunton police told 7News they are trying to determine who is behind the website and whether or not that person broke any laws.
“Right now we have an issue at the high school, which you’re aware of, and the police department is handling the issue so there’s not a lot I can tell you about it,” said Dr. Julie Hackett, Taunton school superintendent.
Because of the sensitive nature of the pictures and a possible invasion of the students’ privacy, the school superintendent said she is letting police take the lead in getting to the bottom of this.
Students said they are urged not to talk about any of the allegations. The superintendent told 7News this is only an issue with high school students.
Taunton police said this is a large-scale investigation and they are looking at many teenagers. Investigators said some pictures posted appear to be students from other schools as well.
“Of course we would take anything like that seriously and if we were further into an investigation we may be able to comment, but when the police is handling the investigation the schools are not at liberty to share information,” said Hackett.
No arrests have been made and no disciplinary actions have been taken, according to Hackett. She did say she expects the police to wrap up their investigation sometime next week.
