Clerks fight back against would-be robbers in Fall River
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WHDH) -- Two clerks fought back against armed would-be robbers in Fall River.
Alan Viveiros was about to close up shop Friday night when two men with masks and knives charged in.
“They pulled their knives and said, ‘Give me your money and that was it,’” said Viveiros.
Viveiros reached for the alarm, but quickly learned the crooks wanted more than money.
“Just as I pulled the alarm, they went to stab me,” said Viveiros.
He grabbed the first thing he could.
“We have tools all over the place cause we're always fixing things,” said Viveiros said.
It happened to be a hammer.
“Once they get close enough, then I swing,” said Viveiros. “I think I hit his hand, he dropped the knife and it bounced under the floor.”
But when the would-be thief went to get it, co-worker Bhutto Sheihk jumped in.
“I throw whole chair on the guy,” said Sheihk.
Two days later, they were both back at work.
It’s part of our job. It's not necessarily being heroic, just try to stay safe and out of harm's way,” said Viveiros.
But he’s confident these crooks won't be back for more.
The would-be robbers are still on the run.
