Brockton mom speaks out after son's death
BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- The District Attorney’s Office is investigating the suspicious death of a boy in Brockton.
The boy, 4-year-old Chauncey Cohen, was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton Sunday night. Investigators are calling the death suspicious.
“He was a great kid and I love him from the bottom of my heart and I wish I could take him back because I didn’t want to lose him that soon at 4 years old,” said Tania Merisca, Chauncey’s mother. “I can’t believe this is happening to me, I lost my baby.”
Merisca, 26, said she was staying with Chauncey and her boyfriend at the Holiday Inn Express in Brockton. She went to work on Sunday while her boyfriend watched the toddler. Merisca said when she returned to the hotel around 7 p.m. she thought her son wasn’t feeling well so she gave him a bath. She then rushed him to the hospital when she realized he wasn’t breathing.
“He was not breathing at all. I checked his pulse. I checked his neck. I listened to his heart. There was nothing. There was no beat at all,” said Merisca.
Crime scene investigators spent hours inside the hotel room where the boy had been.
“Stay strong for him, that’s all I can do…just get to the bottom of this,” said Merisca.
Investigators have focused on room 134 at the hotel. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
