Chairs, fists flew in Brockton fast food brawl
BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- Chairs and fists flew inside Popeye’s Restaurant at the Westgate Mall in Brockton Tuesday and it was all caught on the store’s surveillance video.
Easit Siddiqui, who was working at the time, says the brawl was like a scene out of a movie.
“The whole thing was about a 1 minute, 30 seconds. They kept fighting for about 1 minute, 30 seconds and then they just got up and went their separate ways,” said Siddiqui.
Four men in their late teens and early 20s were arrested. They were in court Wednesday facing several charges.
Prosecutors said the brawl started in a shoe store and ended at Popeye’s.
“This defendant and the group of five surrounded the group of three, began melee or fight,” said Prosecutor Dan Demenis.
Employees huddled behind the counter in horror. Customers eating dinner looked on in disbelief.
Siddiqui is just thankful no one had weapons.
“This was supposed to be a busy time and it was -- the only thing was, if there were more customers it would have been a bigger brawl because then you have kids getting hit, parents getting involved and things like that. It would have been bad,” said Siddiqui.
The men who were in court are held on bail ranging from $5,000 to $10,000. If they post bail, the judge has ordered them to stay away from the mall.
Police said they are still trying to identify people in the store’s surveillance video.
