Driver crashes truck into Papa Gino's in Brockton
BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A driver turned a Brockton Papa Gino’s into a drive-through restaurant after crashing his truck into the building.
Police said a pickup truck crashed into the back of another car, crossed over the next lane and slammed into a Papa Gino’s in the middle of lunch hour Saturday.
Police said the 73-year-old man driving the pickup truck probably thought he was hitting the brake when he accelerated through the wall. The driver was taken to the hospital to get checked out.
A 26-year-old man who was eating lunch inside was also brought to a hospital.
Employees said there were several people in the restaurant at the time of the crash.
“The truck was completely in the store. There was no part of the truck…all the way in the store. Cops everywhere, people were taking pictures…lined up all over the street, all over the sidewalks. It was crazy. The whole truck was inside the building,” said Cory O’Connor, who saw the aftermath of the crash.
The Papa Gino’s is still doing pickup and delivery business. The seating area will need to be rebuilt.
The driver of the pickup truck was cited for failure to stay in a marked lane.
