State police investigating in Stoneham
STONEHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- State and local police conducted an investigation at Spot Pond in Stoneham on Thursday afternoon after a person reported a freshly-dug grave.
State police assigned to the district attorney’s office in Middlesex County and Stoneham police were on the scene.
A source told 7News that Police received a call Wednesday night saying that four men were seen going into the woods near Spot Pond with shovels. Those reports turned out to be unfounded as police investigated last night.
On Thursday afternoon, police received a call from a hiker in the area that said they spotted something described as a freshly-dug grave.
“Just walking in the woods…we come up to this suspicious grave. I thought it was suspicious, so I called state police,” said Rocco Renari, who called police.
State troopers went into the wooded area, which was sealed off with yellow police crime tape. Investigators have brought evidence bags into the woods.
There is no word from officials on what they are looking for or if they have found anything.
