Jogger stabbed in Fairhaven park
FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WHDH) -- Around 10 p.m. Monday a jogger was running through Fort Phoenix park in Fairhaven when she was stabbed.
According to police, the woman thought she had been punched in the stomach when her iPod was stolen but after she got home she discovered a small puncture.
“It’s kind of surprising to hear that that happened,” park visitor Paul Moitoso said. “I walk here pretty much every night and it’s really pretty safe.”
The attack happened well after dark. Many park-goers said they wouldn’t be in the park that late at night.
“It’s kind of scary in a way, but I wouldn’t come that late at night anyway,” another park visitor said.
Moitoso and others said the feel that the park is normally safe, but hearing about this will keep them on their toes.
“Now I’ll be a little more cautious and weary when I come down here,” Moitoso said.
Police said the man ran into woods and they were unable to find him.
