Police find 17 neglected pit bulls in Middleboro home
DEDHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- Police say they found 17 pit bulls after a SWAT team raided a Middleboro home. The dogs were being neglected and left to live in deplorable conditions.
Police arrested 30-year-old John Campbell, also known as the rapper “Six Fever,” after they found guns, drugs, cash and canines. The raid was finally made following a month long investigation. Campbell faces a number of charges including cruelty to animals.
“It was unsanitary, overcrowded; just very poor conditions for the puppies,” said Jessica Gardner, animal control officer.
Middleboro police say four adult dogs and two litters of puppies were kept together in one crate.
“They're recovering well. They went to the vets yesterday. Had fluids, food, had a full assessment, evaluation. Today they're doing much better. They're more perky, they're playing, eating well,” said Gardner.
The four grown dogs are part of the criminal case and will be kept in Middleboro. The smallest puppy is being kept in medical care. A dozen puppies are heading for new homes.
Animal control officers say the four adult dogs show good temperaments, and that bodes well for the puppies becoming good pets.
