Local teen with rare disease honored by Kraft
FOXBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -- A local teenager with a rare genetic disorder has been featured on HBO.
Sam Berns, from Foxboro, has Progeria disease. It causes premature aging.
His life was the subject of "Life According to Sam" which aired Monday night.
Berns is one of about 250 kids in the world with the disease.
Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft heard about Berns’ story and invited him to Gillette Stadium where he got to meet Tom Brady.
Kraft has pledged to match penny for penny pledges donated to Progeria research - up to half a million dollars.
The matching goes until Berns’ 17th birthday.
