State trooper injured in Quincy crash

QUINCY, Mass. -- A Massachusetts State Police trooper crashed his cruiser into two telephone poles in Quincy on Thursday.

The trooper, a man in his 30's, apparently suffered a medical condition while behind the wheel, causing him to knock down one telephone pole, sideswipe a truck, and crash into another pole at the corner of Billings Street and Atlantic Street in Quincy.

The cruiser stopped when it hit the second pole, and was resting on the sidewalk and a lawn when emergency crews arrived.

The trooper, a three-year veteran, was semi-conscious when he was taken to a Boston hospital, but other troopers said he should be fine.

Other troopers covered the numbers up on the victim's cruiser so that family and friends would not see it before they were able to be notified about the accident by authorities.

Officers believe the trooper, who is a Quincy resident, was heading home when the accident occurred.
