Theft victim receives thank you note from robber in RI

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. -- A woman who was the victim of credit card theft got a thank you note from the person who took her information.

“They can break the law, rob people and then insult them on top of that,” said Stephanie Marisca, in disbelief.

Insult to injury. A thief not only charged $2,400 to a Narragansett woman’s credit card, but then went online, order $65 worth of flowers and had them delivered to her Clarke Road home.

“Sending the flowers, rubbing it in her face - I think that’s horrible,” said a woman.

Police say Bank of America contacted the woman in March, telling her that someone had charged thousands of dollars to her credit card, including flowers sent to her home with a card that said: “thnx for ur money.”

“Someone had the nerve to steal someone’s card and then say “thank you?” said Marisca.

“You feel angry that someone is doing that to you,” said June Parks. “And taking that…away from you, and what can you do to get it back?”

Many of the purchases were made online, and police say they are working on tracking down the thief. And while the bank has closed the account and the woman isn’t responsible for the fraudulent charges, the sense of safety that has been stolen away won’t be as easy to replace.

“She won’t be responsible for the $2,000, but now he knows where you live,” said a woman.

The woman told police she also received coupon books and magazines at her home.
