Quincy man tells of his encounter with Whitey Bulger

QUINCY, Mass. -- Whitey Bulger is wanted in connection with 19 murders as well as extortion and racketeering. One Quincy man shared his terrifying experience with the notorious criminal with 7News.
People in Bulger’s neighborhood in California and in Quincy described him as quiet, but one man had the bad luck of crossing him and he describes it as a vicious encounter.
“[He] takes the shotgun, puts it in my mouth. I go back like this…Bulger’s looking at me,” said Richard Buccheri.
The terror is still real for a developer who was summoned to Bulger’s South Boston “Shakedown House” over a property dispute. Bulger put a death threat on Buccheri’s entire family.
“He says, ‘Bulger’s kind of man. He wants to see you right away.’ This is on a Friday afternoon so I call my daughter Donna and I said ‘I’m going to Southie,’” said Buccheri.
Buccheri can barely speak about being face-to-face with the notorious Whitey Bulger. His life was on the line after he had defined a property line between two homes that gave less land to Bulger’s associate, Kevin Weeks.
“I don’t know who Weeks is. I’ve never met the person. I wouldn’t know…I don’t know who Weeks is,” Buccheri said he told Bulger.
“’Well he’s my surrogate son! And you shouldn’t open your mouth - you should keep your mouth shut!’” Bulger said in response, according to Buccheri.
Buccheri said Bulger let him go, but made him pay up.
“[He] takes his hand off the shotgun, put it under the chair, comes out with a .45 and puts it to my head and he says, ‘If you don’t pay me, I’m going to kill you and your family,’” said Buccheri.
Buccheri then wrote a check for $200,000. He said the check was cashed by Steve Fleming. Buccheri said it was a massive financial hit for his family, but it was the only option he had.
