4 suspects held after attempted kidnapping

TAUNTON, Mass. -- Four suspects appeared in Taunton District Court on Tuesday after allegedly attempting to abduct a woman who was jogging in Rehoboth.

Police spent hours searching for the suspects who were wanted for attempted kidnapping.

“We were able to locate one of the subjects on foot. He was taken into custody. The search went on for probably another five hours and we were eventually able to take the other three suspects into custody,” said Lt. James Trombetta of the Rehoboth Police Department.

At the height of the incident, Rehoboth police put out a reverse 911 call to residents asking anyone if they saw the suspects -- some did and they called police.

One resident was in her backyard with her son when they spotted the three suspects.

“It was three guys walking in the woods with black hoodies on. The dogs went charging after them and I told them to go get the dogs because I didn’t know who they were -- I didn’t know if it was kids skipping school, but they seemed a little big to be skipping school, and I didn’t know what was going on,” said Pam Lalier, who called 911.

“We received calls from residents that these guys were running through their yards,” said Trombetta.

By Monday night, investigators determined the suspects had broken into a house on Smith Street earlier in the day. Investigators said they stole watches, jewelry and an iPod.

“They’re all criminals. They’re all criminals. They all have past records. They were up there for no good,” said Trombetta.

All four suspects were held on $25,000 cash bail each. They are due back in court in November.

Investigators said the suspects may be wanted in connection with other house break-ins in the area.
