WALPOLE, Mass. -- Frustration flamed up among a group of firefighters. They were inside a fire truck when live wires came crashing down, putting them in danger.

It was a terrifying time for those firefighters. It happened during the storm on Saturday. According to the Walpole Fire Department, three firefighters were checking on downed wires on Common Street in Walpole. Two firefighters got out to look around when a live wire fell on top of the fire truck electrifying it. It blew out the back tires and charred the truck. It has been repaired. The remaining firefighter who was inside was trapped in the truck but was able to jump to safety.

The firefighters said when it happened they called NStar, but it took them, according to the Fire Department, more than an hour to arrive. NStar said that when the crew did arrive, they cut the power to the area to make it safe for everyone. NStar released a statement that said in part:

“This incident happened at a time during the height of the storm when we were getting thousands of calls, hundreds of them being to report emergency situations.”
