PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Warwick philanthropy has given away nearly $19 million to Rhode Island projects, including a grant to study cybersecutiry at the University of Rhode Island.

Grants from The Champlin Foundations are up by 11 percent from 2010.

The Providence Journal reports that most of the money, as usual, will support nonprofit groups in Rhode Island.

The grants also will support the completion of a children's attraction at Roger Williams Park Zoo and improvements and equipment at community institutions.

Many of the Champlin grant recipients include hospitals, universities and libraries, such as $159,160 to equip a new URI facility for cybersecurity, $500,000 for a generator for Butler Hospital and $673,000 for heating and ventilation at the main branch of the Providence Public Library.
