NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) -- Authorities say a two-alarm fire that burned a home and left two people dead in New London is considered suspicious.

Zak Leavy, executive assistant to the mayor in New London, says in a statement to The Associated Press that the New London Police Department is investigating what it considers to be a suspicious fire. He says that two people were found at the fire scene Friday. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and the other died after being transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

Authorities said 57-year-old Noel Starback has been identified as one of the victims. The second victim has not been identified.

Autopsies are scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death and assist in the identification of the second victim.
