Service being held for Buddy Cianci's daughter
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Hundreds have gathered for a memorial service for the daughter of former Providence Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci Jr., who died last week from what police called an apparent overdose.
A celebration of Nicole Cianci's life began Tuesday morning at Grace Episcopal Church in Providence. She will be buried at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston.
Nicole Cianci was found dead in her Providence apartment on Friday. She was 38.
Buddy Cianci said it's an emotional time for his family.
Nicole Cianci underwent drug treatment in 2002, the same year her father was convicted of corruption charges. He wrote a memoir last year in which he described how Nicole had visited him in prison.
Mayor Angel Taveras held a moment of silence for Nicole Cianci during his budget address Monday night.
