PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The mother of an 11-year-old Rhode Island girl with a brain condition who was assaulted by several other girls in March is criticizing one of the attackers for going on national TV and saying the victim deserved the beating.
A 13-year-old girl involved in the attack in Woonsocket, which was recorded on video and posted online, appeared in an episode of the "Dr. Phil" show that aired Monday and said the victim "deserved what she got" and had agreed to the fight knowing it would be recorded.
The victim's mother, Holly Gingerella of Woonsocket, told WPRO-AM that she was shocked by the girl's comments and said they showed an unbelievable lack of empathy.
The four girls who attacked Gingerella's daughter, Alicia, have been charged and face discipline from family court.
