TAUNTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A suspect from providence, Rhode Island is in custody in Massachusetts following a police chase that crossed the state line.
Massachusetts state police arrested the 30-year-old Ignacio Abreu in Taunton Wednesday night and was arraigned on Thursday.
“I told my wife, ‘Shut the door because I don’t know if the cops are going to get him or not right away,’” said a neighbor.
Prosecutors said Abreu did everything he could to get away from police.
“He estimated he was traveling in various speeds between 90 and 103 miles per hour while traveling down the road in pursuit of this defendant’s vehicle,” said prosecutors.
Police said Abreu nearly hit a woman and rammed a cruiser before crossing state lines into Massachusetts. Prosecutors say he was wanted in Worcester for dealing drugs.
“He was arraigned in Worcester Superior Court back in June of 2010 on trafficking of heroin charges,” said prosecutors.
Abreu turned onto a dead-end street in Taunton where he was then cornered and eventually arrested.
"I saw a cop, both of them, getting out of the car and running. So the guy was already out of the car going towards the backyard,” one witness said.
“He attempted to get out of the area of the police by climbing over a fence. At that point in time he was apprehended by the state police,” said prosecutors.
Abreu entered a not guilty plea. His bail was set at $10,000, but with his open drug case out of Worcester he was ordered to be held without bail.
