NORWOOD, Mass. (WHDH) -- A pedestrian was hit and killed by a train in Norwood overnight -- the third such death in less than a week.

Early Tuesday morning, police received a call that a train hit a pedestrian near the Windsor Gardens MBTA station in Norwood.

Transit police say the male victim was pronounced dead a short while after the accident.

Officers are investigating the incident, trying to determine what the victim was doing near the tracks.

Around 4:45 p.m. Monday, investigators say an Amtrak train hit and killed a man in Foxboro.

The Norfolk County District Attorney's office has not released the name of the victim, who was in his thirties.

Investigators say the death does not appear to be suspicious.
