Woman battling cancer gets dream wedding

TAUNTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- Liznay Rodriguez is battling cervical cancer and it has quickly spread to her lungs and legs. With the help of Wish Upon a Wedding's Boston chapter, she married her childhood sweetheart and man of her dreams in a celebration she will never forget.

Like many brides, Taunton’s Liznay Rodriguez had wedding-day jitters. She and her childhood sweetheart, Norberto Ramos waited a long time for their big day.

“I wasn't expecting nothing like this. This is just a blessing that came to us,” said Liznay’s husband, Norberto Ramos.

Liznay is in the fight of her life, battling cervical cancer which spread to her lungs and thigh. And the wedding was a dream come true.

“It was always my dream. Every time we planned for the wedding, medical bills and I couldn't pay for it,” said Liznay.

“We’ve been talking about it for two years. We’ve been dealing with that for four years so it’s been kind of hard,” Ramos said.

Non-profit Wish Upon a Wedding heard Liznay's story, and through their network, they granted her a beautiful celebration; all $15,000-worth free of charge.

“All of the vendors, all of the hospitality vendors; photography, videography donates their services. They find us through local meet-and-greets where we held it at different locations. They donate absolutely 100 percent of their services,” said Leigh Howlett, Wish Upon a Wedding.

Coordinated by the Saphire Event Group, it was the second wedding put together by the Boston chapter. For Liznay and Norberto, it was a wish that will never be forgotten.

“I’m just happy and grateful that this organization is here and able to fulfill this dream for her,” Ramos said.
