RI hires firm to study 38 Studios liability
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Gov. Lincoln Chafee has announced the hiring of a law firm to investigate whether there is any third-party liability after the collapse of former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's video gaming company.
Chafee says Tuesday that the state's Economic Development Corp. has hired the firm of Wistow & Barylick to do the work.
The firm is expected to review documents related to the state's $75 million loan guarantee to 38 Studios and work with auditors reviewing its finances. The firm will seek to interview former members of the EDC Board, which approved the guarantee in 2010.
Chafee says he wants to determine whether the state could recover money from other groups or individuals involved in the deal.
38 Studios filed for bankruptcy protection June 7.
