BOSTON (AP) -- The state commission overseeing casino gambling has agreed to meet with representatives of several towns concerned about the potential impact of a casino proposed by the Mashpee Wampanoag for the city of Taunton.

But the chairman of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, Stephen Crosby, said Tuesday that he wasn't sure the panel could provide any "substantive answers" to the questions being asked by officials from Lakeville, Berkley and Middleboro.

The tribe is currently in talks with Gov. Deval Patrick's administration about a casino compact that must be reached by July 31 under the state's new gambling law.

Surrounding communities have complained about being shut out of the negotiations.

State Rep. Keiki Orrall, a Lakeville Republican, requested the meeting with the gaming commission, which has limited input in the tribal casino process.
