Quincy store owner indicted for alleged fraud

BOSTON (AP) -- A Quincy store owner accused of exchanging food stamps for cash has been indicted by a Massachusetts grand jury on charges of larceny of over $250, procurement fraud and access device fraud.

Attorney General Martha Coakley's office announced the indictment of 48-year-old Pat Lu on Tuesday afternoon. No date has been set for the arraignment of the owner of Pat's Mini Mart in Norfolk Superior Court.

In April, Lu was arrested in connection with an ongoing criminal scheme to defraud the Electronic Benefit Transfer system's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Authorities allege the scheme broke the law by exchanging SNAP benefits for cash, with Lu entering fraudulent information on an EBT and paying cash to the customer for half of what he charged for their purchase.
