SWANSEA, Mass. (WHDH) -- Four people were hurt when a driver lost control and crashed into an ambulance outside of a McDonald's in Swansea Thursday.

Police say the car and the ambulance caught fire after the crash but no one was inside the ambulance at the time. The ambulance was pushed and hit another car in the parking lot.

“There was a gold car that had come, literally veered into the grass, and hit an ambulance straight-on,” witness Sydney Bowen said. “There was a black car right behind it and then all of a sudden it started smoking and the woman was actually out here on the grass rolling around.”

Family members said the driver of the car Victoria Borkai told them she was driving on Route 136 when she was hit from behind by another car forcing her off the road, up a hill and then into the side of the ambulance.

Police say a total of four people were transported to the hospital, three with serious injuries.

Police continued to investigate the crash Friday.

The four injured people were expected to be okay.
