State Police: Marked cruiser involved in crash in Avon
AVON, Mass. (WHDH) -- State Police say they are investigating a crash between a marked Massachusetts State Police cruiser and a Saab that occurred Tuesday afternoon on Route 24 southbound in Avon. The crash resulted in minor injuries to an 11-year-old child and the trooper, state police say.
At 3:38 pm, a trooper reported that he had been involved in a crash, according to state police.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the trooper was driving in the left lane when he observed a disabled motor vehicle in the breakdown lane, police say. As he began to cross over the highway with the cruiser's emergency blue lights activated, he collided with the Saab operated by a Carver woman according to police.
An 11-year-old passenger sustained injuries from the airbag deployment in the Saab and the trooper sustained neck and back injuries, state police say.
Both victims were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton but no further information was available on their conditions, state police say.
The cruiser had damages to its right front while the Saab sustained damages to its left front and both vehicles were towed from the scene, according to state police.
