PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A flash flood warning has been issued for two counties in Rhode Island because of predicted heavy rainfall from thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service says the warning is in effect in Providence and Kent counties until 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The warning also applies elsewhere in southern New England in parts of Connecticut and Massachusetts.
The weather service says that excessive runoff from heavy rainfall may cause flooding of small streams and creeks as well as highways and underpasses. Low-lying areas could also experience flooding.
The Providence Journal reports that golf ball-sized hail was reported in Burrillville.
