Family confronts robber inside Carver home

CARVER, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Carver homeowner confronted a criminal inside her own home. She says she scared the burglar off, but not before he got away with some of her things.

“My daughter-in-law said, ‘Someone’s up in your bedroom window,’ and I said, ‘No, you’re just seeing things,’” said Jackie Hooper, homeowner.

Jackie Hooper remembered the first sign her family had that an intruder had gotten into the house while they were having a party in the backyard of their Carver home.

The man rifled through unlocked cars, then came in through a door probably left unlocked by a guest.

The family found the man in hiding in the closet of an upstairs bedroom and he took off.

“My son chased him to the bedroom and he comes right down the stairs right through the screen right across the yard. We didn’t know anything,” Hooper said.

The intruder crashed his getaway car after the son got him in a headlock but took off again when the son went to call police.

About the same time the next night, police received another call of a home intruder who was scared off when the occupants woke up. But police say they caught the man, 18-year-old Michael Davidson, hiding in nearby woods.

Investigators say they're confident the two cases aren't connected, except by the common thread of desperate men taking advantage of unlocked cars and houses.

“They’re looking for the quick, easy scores. Grab some small stuff, money, change, whatever. Electronics, cameras, iPods. And out they go,” said Sgt. Mike O’Donnell, Carver Police Department.

Carver police say they are investigating a third home-intruder case.
