NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WHDH) -- The District Attorney released a statement saying that some of the autopsy results are in and suggest there is nothing suspicious about the death of a woman and her infants found dead inside a New Bedford apartment Friday afternoon.
Rayna Ramos, 19, and her infant were found in a bathroom on the second floor of a New Bedford apartment, police said.
Friends say the woman had just given birth to her daughter three weeks ago and it was her boyfriend, the baby’s father, who found them.
“The boyfriend’s coming in, knocking on the door like that, and she no open the door. The boyfriend -- he open the door like that and he find out the girlfriend is, you know,” said Nicolas Gabriel, a friend.
Nicolas Gabriel was friends with the victim from church. He says the woman went into the bathroom and never came out. When the boyfriend came home, he went to check on his family and made the discovery.
“[The victim’s boyfriend found the victim in the shower] with the baby,” Gabriel said.
The district attorney’s office says they don’t believe foul play was involved.
Neighbors say the home is not known to be a problem, so seeing police tape around the apartment was frightening to them.
“When I came back just a few minutes later, it was really a mob scene of police and you couldn’t even come up to the street,” said Deborah Coelho, a neighbor.
Neighbors describe the area as a place full of families and plenty of children.
“It’s kind of devastating because you look at it like family. It’s very heartbreaking, ‘cause I mean, we all can relate to a mother and child,” said Coelho.
Investigators said until they have complete autopsy results, they will not know the official cause of death - and that could take several weeks.
