BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Brockton man somehow lifted an SUV off his friend after it fell on top of him. The victim was pinned when his SUV fell off the jack while he tried to change a flat tire.
“The jack just slipped out from underneath it and it just went down,” said Anthony Giannelli, a witness.
It was a terrifying scene in Anthony Giannellis' driveway. His friend was pinned under an SUV.
“’Ow, get me out of here,’ cause he couldn't yell, it hit him right here,” Giannelli said.
The victim was trying to change a flat tire on his SUV. He had it jacked up when it crashed down on top of him.
“He couldn't move at the moment. He was telling me, ‘help help,’” said Carlos Castro.
Neighbor Carlos Castro, who had come over to help change the tire, wasted no time.
“I was standing right back here at the same moment it happened. All I could do is grab the hitch and pull as hard as I could,” Castro said.
The 48-year-old grandfather had the strength to hold it long enough to let the victim crawl out.
“He was telling me, ‘help! Help! Get the jack,’ That's going to take too long. I lift the truck and you pull him out,” Castro said.
Castro says he was thinking of the victim's family and doesn't consider himself a hero.
“It’s just something that I did that I hope anybody can do for me if it happened to me,” said Castro.
“He's lucky he's in the fact if he was under it further than that he would have -- it could have done more damage,” said Giannelli.
The victim is expected to be fine.
