WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WHDH) -- Declan Sheehan, 3, came face-to-face with a Beluga whale at a Connecticut aquarium.
“I talked to him. I said, ‘Beluga,’” Declan told 7’s Byron Barnett about what he did to make the whale keep coming back.
The beluga was swimming in a tank at the Mystic Aquarium. Cell phone video shows that the whale seemed to take a liking to Declan and his friend Colin, even though Colin wasn’t quite as comfortable with the situation -- video shows calling jumping away from the glass.
“[The whale] kissed me,” Declan said. “Well, he couldn’t real kiss me.”
There were dozens of other kids at the tank, but for some reason the whale kept coming back to Declan. Declan’s mom and her friend knew they had to take video of the encounter.
“The whale kept coming right back down in front of Colin and Declan, like numerous times. At least four or five times, and he kept opening up his mouth like he was going to kiss them,” said Emily Sheehan, Declan’s mother.
“It was fun,” said Declan.
“I don’t think the kid’s scared of anything,” said Emily Sheehan.
Declan’s mom said her son loves animals and loves going to the aquarium. Declan said he wants to go back and see the whale again.
