WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WHDH) -- A man said a swan shattered his windshield as he was driving down a road in Weymouth.

“I got there and the first thing I saw was the car and then I really thought this one was going to be in bad shape,” said Bill Tanguay, Animal Rescue League of Boston.

The car was cruising on Washington Street in Weymouth Monday morning near Whitman’s Pond when the waterfowl spread its wings a little too close to traffic.

“They’re brazen a little bit. They come to the stairwell and you feed them but other than that I’ve never seen them go out to the street,” said Jackie Johnson.

The swan was barely hurt -- just a couple cuts and some ruffled feathers.

“He had a few minor scrapes on his legs, but by the time we got back here it dried up and he was walking just fine,” said Tanguay.

Near the water in Weymouth, interacting with the wildlife is a daily affair.

It’s easy to brake for birds when they cross the street the traditional way -- but good luck ducking a large low-flying swan as it swoops down toward the pond.

“They do fly pretty low, they also walk across the street, the highway sometimes,” said Vinny Axious.

The bird was taken in by the Animal Rescue League of Boston and will eventually be released back into the wild.
