FOXBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -- Middle school students made a call for help when they found their home had been broken into in Foxboro Tuesday.
They returned home from school to find a door smashed in. When police arrived on the scene, they did a perimeter search and found the suspect hiding in the basement of a neighboring home.
Haily Anderson had just gotten home from school. She was with a friend when she realized the side door to her home had been kicked in.
“I went upstairs to open the door, but the door was already open,” said Haily Anderson. “Everything was on the ground. My closet was open and my drawers were open.”
The 11-year-old quickly realized what had happened.
“I was running around the house, seeing what they took and what they didn’t take,” said Haily Anderson. “I told my friend to call 911 and then I called my mom and then she said she’d be right there.”
“I was in class and I got the frantic phone call saying all I heard was someone broke in and I was just, ‘call 911,’ and I was running out of the school,” said Jobina Anderson, Haily’s mother.
Jobina Anderson works at a school up the street from her home. Haily’s daily routine is to drop off her backpack at home then go to her mother’s school.
Police say Daniel Callahan, 30, ransacked the Anderson’s house. Police say they found him hiding in a neighbor’s basement.
“When he came out, I was just terrified,” Haily Anderson said.
Police say the suspect tried stealing prescription drugs -- some of which belong to the Haily’s dog.
The suspect is being held on high bail.
