Conn. sailor delivers baby

UNDATED (NBC) -- Even before he was born, Joel gave his parents a story they'll be talking about for a long time.
"It was an eventful situation, and um, something I’ve ever experienced in my life,” said new father, Joseph Brickhouse.
When mom started having contractions early Thursday morning the Brickhouses got their other kids to a neighbor's house so they could get to the hospital. But, they didn't get far.
"At the garage door her water broke and I thought we still had a little bit of time to get her to the hospital once the water broke, but that wasn't so,” said Joseph Brickhouse.
Yeoman 1st class Joseph Brickhouse tried to get his wife into the car. But, little Joel decided that was about as far as he wanted to go.
In just a matter of minutes, dad helped his wife deliver their son, not in a hospital, but in their own car.
“I've been teasing him ever since that he completed the pass and made the touchdown. We’re in good shape,” said the new mother.
"Surprisingly I wasn't really nervous. That was the thing that got me and shocked me the most. I was my normal, calm self, said Joseph Brickhouse.
Mom and baby were taken to the hospital. Both are healthy and home now. Friends are teasing Joseph with a new name, Dr. Brickhouse. Good natured ribbing this sailor will gladly take after what he calls one of the most amazing experiences of his life.
"I'm still on cloud 9...still on cloud 9,” he said.
