BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- An out-of-control pickup truck slammed into a parked truck, sending both vehicles crashing into a residential building in Brockton Monday morning. Tenants in two of the six units that the vehicles damaged were displaced.
“Bang, and the whole house shook. Like we said, it was like an earthquake. It was startling,” said Carrie McCarthy, a tenant.
A pickup truck travelling along Belmont Street slammed into a parked pickup truck before plowing into a triple decker.
“We tried getting out this morning to see what it was, but we can’t open the door ‘cause it’s jammed. Then we looked up and it’s cracked, cracks up there, cracks in the ceiling,” said Joseph Doran, a tenant.
Everyone inside the building was able to get out safely. The driver of the out-of-control pickup was rushed to the hospital.
Charlie Beckman, who owns the maroon pickup truck that was hit, said he was sleeping when he heard a big boom.
“I was sleeping and then the whole house shook and I don’t know what happened. After that it was just like, ‘where’s my truck,’” said Charlie Beckman, a tenant.
It took emergency responders hours to untangle the twisted metal and shore up the gaping hole left behind.
Residents were thankful no one was seriously hurt.
“We’re okay. A little shaken up early this morning, but now they’re putting us up in a hotel for a couple of nights ‘cause we all have to leave,” said Carrie McCarthy, a tenant.
As of Monday afternoon, there was no word on when the displaced residents could return to their homes.
Police said the driver may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash.
The accident is under investigation.
